BMW Group Readying Massive Display for British Motor Show
With the enormous display they'll have greeting visitors at this year's British International Motor Show, one can't help but wonder if BMW is obviating the need for patrons to actually enter the ExCeL to see the rest of the show. All BMW group brands will be fully represented, a nod to the fact that the automaker has production facilities for all three of its marques in the UK.
The 11,000 square meter (118,000 sq ft) BMW Group Plaza will be located outside the entrance of the show and feature, among other things, the BMW/Oracle America's Cup yacht, a BMW Motorsports area housing the BMW Sauber F1 car, a BMW WTCC 3-series, and a Formula BMW racer, the full roster of M cars, three new BMW motorcycles, and a Mini display that incorporates a floating hospitality area.
Not content to steal everyone's thunder with their display alone, BMW will stage the world premiere of the 730Ld Edition Exclusive. The venue will also host the UK debuts of the Mini GP, Z4 Coupe, Rolls-Royce Phantom Long Wheelbase, Rolls-Royce 101EX Concept, and the latest iteration of the 2006 Mini Concept (in London, the concept's theme is the 1964 Monte Carlo rally victory).
Mini promises to add a little levity to the proceedings with a group of Fake Minis appearing (think "lawnmower with Mini stripes") and a Mini Fake Invaders game. Finally, folks can recover from BMW sensory overload by heading onto the MINI BARge relax a bit before checking out the rest of the show inside ExCeL.
